Symptoms usually resolve after menstruation ceases, or after menopause.  Diagnosing Adeno can be a tricky process, because Adeno is usually ~scattered~ in the walls the uterus.

I have listed some of the tests that your physician may want to do.

A Pelvic Exam will normally be done first, a pelvic exam can let your physician know if the uterus is enlarged or boggy

Vaginal UltraSound
- this can be a hit or miss way of diagnosing Adeno, as it ~may~ show abnormalities of the uterus but it may not show anything at all either, just because it doesn't show any abnormalities does NOT mean that you do NOT have Adenomyosis

An MRI is another procedure that is used in diagnosing Adenomyosis, and even though it is probably one of the best ways to diagnose Adeno, it is rarely used because of the high cost. The MRI can distinguish adenomyosis from fibroids.

Laparoscopy
is a surgical procedure that allows the doctor to look inside the pelvic cavity by inserting a tube-like instrument through a small incision in the abdomen.

Hysteroscopy is a surgical procedure where a thin, lighted tube (telescope) is inserted into the vagina to examine the cervix and inside of the uterus.

D & C (dilation and curettage)
is a surgical procedure that involves dilating (opening) the cervix
